No words can capture the outrage most Australians feel when they see our national flag desecrated. 

Burning the Australian flag is not “brave” and it is not “activism.” It is disrespectful, wrong, and unacceptable. 

Australians have the right to protest, but desecrating our flag is not part of that right. The flag represents our shared history, the sacrifices of those who served, and the freedoms that allow peaceful protest in the first place. 

This issue has been raised in Parliament twice, and I have spoken in support of making it illegal. Yet the Albanese Government has voted against it both times. 

Burning the flag does not promote justice or unity; it deepens division and erodes respect.

Australians deserve better.
