COMMUNITY PEOPLE-POWER SCORES VICTORY AS ALINTA ENERGY SCALES BACK MT CHALLENGER WIND FARM

The decision by Alinta Energy to withdraw the proposed southern section of the Mt Challenger Wind Farm project is a major victory for local residents in Kelsey Creek and Proserpine, Federal Member for Dawson Andrew Willcox MP said today.

Following months of strong community opposition and six months of LiDAR wind monitoring, Alinta Energy officially confirmed the removal of wind turbines from the project's southern zone.

Mr Willcox praised the dedication of local residents who stood together to protect the region's natural landscape and rural character.

"This outcome is a testament to the incredible strength and unity of our local community," Mr Willcox said.

"When everyday people stand up, attend meetings, and demand better for their area, energy proponents and governments are forced to listen.

"I want to give a special mention to Alysha Lee and all the passionate community champions, including everyone involved in the Whitsunday Wind Farm Action Group. Their courage, dedication, and leadership have been truly inspiring, proving that when a community unites, incredible things are possible."

While welcoming the removal of turbines from the southern zone, Mr Willcox noted that Alinta Energy is continuing feasibility assessments on the northern portion of the site.

"While we celebrate this victory today, we cannot afford to be complacent," Mr Willcox said.

Mr Willcox encouraged all local landholders, neighbours, and interested residents to attend Alinta Energy's upcoming consultation sessions.

"Alinta Energy will be hosting drop-in sessions in Proserpine on Wednesday, 29 July, and in Bowen on Thursday, 30 July. I urge everyone to turn up, ask the tough questions, and ensure our community's voice remains front and centre."
