Everyday families in our community are sick and tired of being tricked by a government that cannot even explain its own laws. Instead of delivering a fair budget, Labor did a dirty deal with the Greens behind closed doors, and it is local retirees, mums and dads, and small business owners who are being forced to pay the price.
Here is a summary of the major budget betrayals I am calling out:
The Cruel "Widow’s Tax": Coalition scrutiny uncovered a hidden trap in the grandfathering clauses. If a property changes hands due to a death or a divorce, existing tax protections are completely stripped away: unleashing a massive capital gains tax bill and wiping out negative gearing benefits during a time of profound grief or hardship.
An Assault on Retirees and Pensioners: This budget directly targets older Australians on fixed incomes by slashing the private health insurance rebate for everyone over the age of 65. This slap in the face triggers an immediate premium spike, penalising seniors who have sacrificed for decades to maintain private cover and stay out of our struggling public health system.
Punishing Hard-Working Small Businesses: Instead of rewarding effort, Labor's new rules treat a lifetime of early mornings and sacrifice like a sudden windfall. Local business owners who have spent decades pouring their lives into their businesses to fund their own retirement will now see a massive bite taken out of their hard-earned nest eggs.
The Bottom Line: Tax reform should reward hard work, not penalise independent savings. I am calling on the government to throw out these harmful, half-baked taxes, abandon its high-tax agenda, and return common sense to our national laws.
