LABOR’S NEW FAIR WORK AMENDMENT HAS MORE HOLES THAN SWISS CHEESE

The Albanese Labor Government has proposed new Fair Work legislation amendments and industry outrage has been staggering, a sentiment that Federal Member for Dawson Andrew Willcox shares.

Mr Willcox addressed Parliament during this month’s sitting week to express his outrage and disappointment on behalf of businesses and the people of Dawson, referring to the legislation as Swiss cheese.

“The fair work legislation amendments are impossibly complex and are going to cost billions in wages.

“The amendments are going to cost consumers more, and this is the last thing Australians need in a time of a Labor created cost of living crisis.

“With this legislation, the nation’s economic security is under assault, and this couldn’t have come at a worse time.

“Staff costs have already gone up 11.4% since February alone, so why is the Albanese Labor Government intent on crippling businesses further?” asked Mr Willcox.

Mr Willcox spoke to businesses in Dawson who have admitted that they’re scared and questioning why they’re even doing this anymore, saying one business he spoke to is considering walking away entirely.

“Under the Labor government, rent has increased, cost of supplies has skyrocketed, and workforce shortages are a constant and never-ending battle.

“These are all costs that the business must either absorb, which is unsustainable for the business, or they must pass the costs on to consumers, who can’t afford to pay more.

Drawing similarities between our current economic situation and recessions that Australia has experienced previously, Mr Willcox said that “this is textbook Labor, and we see this play out over and over again.”

“According to the businesses that I’ve spoken to on this topic, the writings already on the wall.

“The last time Australia entered into a recession was in the early 90’s, after Labor had been in government for 7 years.

“Now, in 2023, under yet another Labor government, we are facing, yet again, a serious threat of another recession, and what is the Labor government doing about it? Nothing but making it worse.

“If the Labor government don’t start realising the consequences of their actions, they’re going to grind this economy to a halt,” a frustrated Mr Willcox exclaimed.

Mr Willcox then called on the Albanese Labor Government to “do the right thing” and reverse their decision on this legislation.

“Don’t condemn us to more cost-of-living pressures. Don’t condemn us to business closures, job losses, bankruptcy, and even more homelessness.
